Eugene Delaune, medical director at SentinelMED, was interviewed in an article about the company and its services in a recent Forbes article entitled, “The Low-Key Travel Medical Assistance Company that Could Save Your Life When You’re on Vacation.”
The article discusses how SentinelMED works with Allianz Travel Insurance to assist patients who have complex medical problems and need immediate care. Delaune is a partner and founder of SentinelMED along with Jim Evans, SentinelMED’s managing director.
Delaune and Evans, along with their team, were excited to be featured in the national media. The article highlighted the rare expertise of SentinelMED. The company is only one of a few consulting companies that provide specialized care for people who develop serious health conditions while traveling.
The interview was conducted by Christopher Elliott, a senior contributor to Forbes who is also a consumer advocate and co-founder of Travelers United. In the article, Elliott explains why patients with complex medical needs should consult with a doctor experienced in emergency medicine or travel medical assistance before traveling long distances. Elliott cited the example of how aircraft cabin pressurization affects the body and its individual organs – something that most physicians don’t have to consider in their daily practices.
The article also discussed one of the SentinelMED team's most challenging cases – helping a group of tourists burned by hydrofluoric acid when a volcano erupted in New Zealand. With intensive treatment overseen by SentinelMED, the patients survived.
More recently, the SentinelMED team’s work is helping to restore confidence in travel as the COVID-19 pandemic has begun to fade, at least in some parts of the world. In the article, Elliott explained how the team’s doctors and nurses learned how to keep up with and navigate the continuously shifting regulations for travel during a pandemic.
”COVID made us more adaptable,” Delaune told Elliott.
