As a company providing door-to-door commercial air medical transports, SentinelMED provides a higher level of care to patients before, during and after a flight. From planning and trip preparations to ensuring the patient’s long-term care needs are met, our medical escort team goes the extra mile. We are committed to providing domestic and international commercial air medical transports at a fraction of the cost of air ambulances.
Preparations and Departure
The medical escort’s job begins days or even weeks before the actual commercial air medical transport. A SentinelMed medical escort team will go to the receiving facility or hospital and conduct a pre-flight assessment of the patient to gain a greater understanding of his or her medical situation. Members of the team will talk with the patient, if he or she is able to communicate, as well as the referring physician and the patient’s nurses. The assessment and planning process is essential in proactively identifying any issues that may arise during the transport, and to establish a detailed plan for the trip.
On the day of the transport, the medical escort team will arrive at the referring facility and travel with the patient to the airport, with ground transportation arranged by SentinelMED. Throughout the departure process, the medical escort team ensures that the patient receives the highest level of care, and that his or her health is never put in jeopardy.
In-Flight
SentinelMED’s medical escort team is well-traveled and able to handle any situation that may arise during a commercial air medical transport. The medical escort team provides medical care to patients and assists them in maneuvering through the airport, passing through security checkpoints, and getting on and off the plane. Arrival & Long-Term Care Needs
Once at the destination airport, the medical escort team travels with the patient to the receiving facility or residence. Escorts do not simply admit the patient to a care facility or drop him or her at home. If the patient is taken to a hospital or long-term care facility, the medical escort provides an in-depth medical report to the receiving physician and medical staff. While SentinelMED has been in communication with the receiving medical team before the flight, it’s helpful for the medical escort to review the medical file. The escorts also will provide any updates in medical status and discuss the patient’s care during the commercial air medical transport.
In some circumstances, the patient may be going to his or her residence, or to the home of a family member. As part of the door-to-door service, the medical escort assesses the home and accommodations for the patient. It is the escort’s responsibility to ensure that the patient’s medical needs and long-term care requirements are met. If for any reason the medical escort believes that the patient will do better in a hospital or medical setting, he or she will take the patient to a pre-determined receiving facility. At no time before, during or after the flight is the patient’s care comprised.
